Financial Coaching from the Gym

Every time I go to the gym, I usually see a couple of fitness classes going on and multiple people working with Personal Trainers. People normally attend these classes and hire Personal Trainers because they want to reach some of their health or fitness goals. Some people do it to lose weight. Some people want to get back in shape. Some people are training for a specific event like a 5k, marathon, or an ironman. Regardless of what the goal is, the classes and Personal Trainers are designed to help each person reach their goal. They can help achieve the goal quicker as well.
What do we do if we need help reaching our financial goals? The first step is determining what our goals are. Some people are tired of living paycheck to paycheck and want to be able to put money into savings. Some people may need help preparing for a vacation. Some people may be looking to purchase a new car or house in the near future. Some people may be trying to pay off debt and student loans as quick as possible.
Once we determine what our goals are, we need to create a game plan to achieve these goals. If we need help creating a game plan, where do we go? Some people will go to a financial advisor, but it is common for the financial advisor to try to sell some financial products during the meeting (insurance, mutual funds, retirement accounts, etc.). Another option is to reach out to a financial coach. A good financial coach will review your goals and your current financial status to develop a game plan to reach you goals. Personally, I like to give 2 or 3 options. The first option is normally the most efficient option, but may require more discipline. The other options will give more flexibility, but it may take a little longer to reach the goals.
I have a couple of goals with the financial coaching. First, I want to create hope that financial success and stability is possible. I enjoy acknowledging the victories that each client makes throughout the year. I also provide encouragement during the stressful times as well as a plan preserver through it.
The second goal I have is to provide the information and tools for my clients to make good decisions with their money. A lot of the information can come through the coaching sessions. I can also provide articles that provides relevant information to the client. Some of the information can come from colleagues I’ve worked with over the years that have knowledge and experience in their field.
The third goal I have is to help the client retire comfortably and build a legacy for their family. I know a lot of people who are working hard to make ends meet. For some, it means working multiple jobs to pay the bills. My goal is to help provide a game plan where my clients can have enough in retirement that they can relax and spend time with family. Having the opportunity to retire comfortably will allow the client to continue to build a legacy for their family and community. My hopes is that my clients will be able to have the opportunity to give generously to they charities that their passionate about and be able to help meet the needs of their community.
